John Maynard has written an interesting article about high frequency (12000-15000Hz) calls.
According to Mr. Maynard, turkey biologists have found that turkeys respond better to high freqency calls and can hear them at greater distances.
Tests show that the farther away a turkey is, the better he responds to high frequencies. Also, once he responds to a high frequency call, he won't respond to a lower frequency.
Hens often hit notes in the 15,000Hz range when excited and cutting.

QUICK TURKEY CARRYING SLING
This is a slick way to carry a gobbler out of the woods (Thanks to Mark Dunlap - inventor extraordinaire). It is a sling made of nylon rope, app. 3/8 inch in diameter and 28 inches long. You put a slip knot on each end and slip it over the feet of your gobbler and then put it over your shoulder. You will thank Mark over and over again every time you have to carry that old gobbler any distance. No more hurting hands and swapping shoulders.
JIM LOYLESS IS A CLEAN FREAK...
You know those plastic Walmart bags that you are always throwing away? Well, put one in your vest the next time you go turkey hunting. Tie it around the turkey's head before transporting him. You can use the bag handles to tie tightly around the neck area of the turkey and it will keep the blood from getting on your clothes. Works like a champ. Thanks, Jim, for the tip.
